I bought a second rotor on ebay, to serve as a back up in case the main one went down or got horribly jammed, like it happened to me a few weeks ago. Or at least that's how I was justifying it to myself. Truth to be told I bought it because it was described as "purple" color kit, and I thought it would match my Ego 11 Regal 2 (also purple) very well.
Turned out that the color kit is really blue, thou it does look like purple under the appropriate light. So i was a bit disappointed there, but the bright side is that the loader came with the high capacity shell instead of the regular one. I was pleasantly surprised since the item description mentioned nothing of it.
This past weekend I finally got a chance to play a local tourney with it. First impression is that it's noticeably heavier than the regular shell. By a decent margin. Even before putting paint in it I could tell the balance of my set up had changed, going from slightly back heavy to distinctly front heavy. It's basically the only thing I have to say against it.
Since I was playing that tourney I couldn't go into specifics like how many balls it holds or how much heavier it is. But I can say it performs just as expected. The fact that I don't have to wait until the loader is empty to fill it up again is a big deal in my opinion. Since I'm always trying to conserve paint, I hate filling up my hopper and having 10, 20 balls left in the pod. But not as much as hate leaving the loader run dry.
You know when you finally get an angle on someone and you have only a split second to take the shot, but you left the hopper run empty as not to loose those 10, 20 last balls of the pod? Well, I hate those. A LOT. So to me the higher capacity is great, I don't have to wait to fill it up, and I also don't have to waste any left overs in the pod.
Another plus is the ability to hold a lane longer on the break. Specially for back players, those extra balls you'll be carrying will be precious. Most people already have a certain "timing", kind of an internal mental clock, you more or less already have that feel for when the opponent is gonna have to reload based on the time it takes to empty your own hopper. Might be just a second or so of an added string, but when everyone is looking for that "edge", this could just be it.
So as long as you're willing to carry those few extra ounces, the trade off can be advantageous. Surely it's not for everyone, front/snake players won't appreciate the added height to the set up, it is a couple of inches taller than the regular shell. But if you usually play "spacious" stand up bunkers and do not mind the weight, this might give you that extra edge we're all looking for. I recommend it.Thanks for reading.
