I bought an A1 almost as soon as it came out in 06, it was my very first BNIB high end, even thou I already had a DMC, but I got that one used. I still remember the feeling of opening the nice package WDP (at the time that was their name) designed, that was awesome... gun feels very light compared to its competitors at the time... now Ego7, 8, SL, PM8, DM8 and Droid seem to be as light or lighter than the A1... not by much thou... I was extremely pleased with the trigger out of the box, it rips! Only stock trigger comparable IMO are the Ego7 ones and on, but the A1's still better, easier to shoot ropes... the first couple of weeks it was still breaking in, and I was playing exclusively at an indoor field inside a warehouse, and the sound signature was LOUD... outside not so bad, but in there it sound like thunder... the other thing's that I was so used to DMs "magical homing and heat-seeking" capabilities, that at the time I felt like I couldn't hit the broad side of a barn with the A1... anyways, I obviously had Gen1 internals, and a month or so later the gun had this awful first shot drop off that no amount of anti-bolt-stick would resolve... at Cup that year I took it to the WDP booth and was told my valve stem was damaged, replaced it and still had the same problem, felt that I was getting eliminated sometimes because of the gun, got fed up and traded it for a BNIB Ironmen DM6... never regreted it, because I (still) love my DM6 so much, but always kept in mind that one day, when resale value went down, I'd get another one... so here we are, just got this sexy Rage A1 that I've only dry fired so far, it's a bit banged up since used to belong to Travis Day (Miami Rage), and you know how pros treat their guns... it wasn't that bad all things considered... I'll play with it this week and update my review... one thing's for sure, pics don't do it justice since in person this is one sexy looking mofo gun...
So the performance of this Rage Edition is not even comparable to the first gen A1 that I bought back in 2006. Well ok, it's comparable. This one's probably just got that "professional player mojo" to it. Except for milling, all the differences to a regular A1 are cosmetic. The Rage has the black / white color fade scheme and "tattoos" on either side of the body, as well as the "extremly played out" Scarface themed grips. Originally both the eletronics and the internals were exactly the same as any other A1. It might be a tad lighter, but it's hardly noticeable.
There's quite a few things about the A1 that were totally ahead of its time, like the OLED board, best and most complete board to come out at the time, still hasn't been surpassed by any other manufacturers or aftermarket ones. Tadao and Virtue are just now coming up with their versions of OLEDs for other platforms. 3 years later. And mind you, even the aftermarket boards released for A1s are still not on the same league as the stock one. On a more subjective note, same can be said about the trigger. Companies did go out and release aftermarket ones, they just didn't sell well because the stock is already so darn good.
Another first for a paintball marker was the inclusion of a barrel kit (albeit highly oversized), which years later can now be found on the $1800 SL line, and a very light and accurate barrel kit at that. And what about stock laser eyes? I can't recall any other marker that can claim to have that. The bottom line is that there's almost no room to upgrade the A1, something that's been advertised by other companies many times before, but never really accomplished till the A1.

I bought the love/hate edition. it was really good looking, was really easy to shoot fast, and was pretty efficient on gas. the stock board is extremely good as well. there are some things i didnt like about it. the stock barrel kit is horrible and inaccurate. it had some major kick at first, but with some tuning up it wasnt as bad. after a few days of use, it had a leak in the foregrip and volume chamber. it was an easy $15 fix, but was annoying. Overall though, this gun is awsome and ide take it over an ego any day.
