One of the best electropneumatic markers I have owned.

I'm the proud owner of a factory-GBA anodized '03 Excal with DC eyes and Pandora board. It is one of the fastest, easiest to "get on" markers I've owned, and it is one of the smoothest shooting. Solid American construction with amazing factory support and some of the tightest tolerances I've ever encountered!

2500+ shots from an LP 68/45k doesn't hurt, it is one of the most efficient markers I own, beat out only by my Magno'ed, Booster 2'ed, dLite'd Angel A1 which hits 2600+ (10 years later with $300 in upgrades).

AKALMP Excalibur This was by far the best shooting marker ever made period! They weren't the fastest because they're closed bolt, but they're accuracy more than makes up for that. Keep your egos, luxe, matrix......

AKA may have been the shiz back in 2002, but it's been ten years and it's time for all of these markers to retire to a museum. I hated my Excalibur. I traded my PPS Blazer for it (another crummy niche marker), and this thing was nothing but headache after headache. There is little aftermarket support, or techs who will work on your marker if it has a problem... And it will have many problems. The only reason to buy this marker is to stand out and be "agg". But even though, you just look silly carrying something the size of a shoebox shocker around the field. The day I sold my Excal and bought my first Ego was the happiest day of my paintball life.

Pros: quiet, accurate, steady, efficient
Cons: bulky
I'm not one to complain about bulky markers. what i will say is this: if AKA were to ever release a stacked-tube Excalibur (i know about the lawsuit and i know this cannot happen, but a man can dream) i would be on that list for pre-order.

where to start... Efficient.
i a normal day of play, say woodsball, i'll go through a case on a rec ball day, 2.5-3 on a scenario day (more targets ) on the last scenario day i played, i got 5 pods and a hopper, came back in, refilled all, went back out, and got another 5 pods and a hopper. upon my return, i had about 500 psi left. from a 71-4500 (hot filled to 45, on a *62F day, and another 30 minutes from fill to play time, so guess about 4200 psi in reality). so lets see, 2 hoppers and 10 pods, guessing 180 in each hopper and 120/pod, that would make 1560 shots.

That's good in my book.

Next, Accuracy:
now debates could go miles and miles... and miles........ and... ok you get the picture, on what makes a marker accurate. the open v closed bolt discussion has been shelved (in my opinion) due to real testing under the same conditions on a solid rig, that proved they were as accurate as each other.
Great, now that that is out of the way, here's my take:
the markers weight, my only con for it, plays a role in this area for me. its weight helps keep the marker stable (yesyes, as does dwell, and all the other timing tidbits) when firing. everyone knows the phisics law: reaction causes opposite and equal reaction. ball is forced by air out of barrel, air pushes both directions to expand, therefore pushing on the marker itself, thus recoil. if you have a lightweight marker improperly set for dwell, it will kick as bad as a tippmann (assumed stock, i've shot some very, very nice tippy's, some with less kick than my PMR) and set well, will feel buttery smooth with little recoil. this marker, to me, is the epitome of beauty in regards to this. so little reciol that its only noticed when engaged in high rated of fire, and even then its weight keeps the barrel level. side-to-side wobble is MY only issue when firing this marker.

Overall, its a great marker, something i've wanted from day-1 of my paintball 'career' (no job, just dedication) and until recently, did not have the opportunity to own until just under a year ago. well worth the money i spent for it, and well worth its original price tag (in its heyday, at least).

Pros: Quiet, Smooth, Reliable, Easy to maintain, Unique
Cons: Heavy and bulky and unatractive if not milled
I've had my excal for 7 years now and I still love it. It may be heavy but otherwise it has everything one would want in a paintball gun. It's by far the most consistent gun I've ever shot. It has nearly no felt recoil and operates freakishly smoothly. In the 7 years that I've owned it, it has not chopped a single paintball.

Some complaints are that the gun is fairly heavy and bulky especially compared to many of the guns on the market now in 2012. It's also an ugly gun if it hasn't been milled.

Overall though my complaints don't outweigh how fun this gun is to shoot. My favorite part about this gun though is the comments I get when I play with it on the field

This gun is awesome.

If you can get a hold of one, you should try to keep it.

There probably aren't many left, since it is rather old, but they are worth owning, and remind me of the basic DM3's, and shoot like one too.
