So I haven't had my Tac 5m Recon for long, and it was a gift from a friend who had used it for a while and wanted a new gun and gave this one to me (note: it made me put in a price other than $0), but it is AWESOME!! It took the beating that it got throughout the hard hits on the ground, getting hit by other players paintballs, and a few slides in the woods that smashed it into large rocks and stones; scratched, but otherwise in still perfect condition. I haven't been playing very long, but I LOVE IT!! The only down side to this fine machine by JT is that in order to have any sights on it, you have to buy them separately, but it has 2 mounting rails, so you can add a scope, red dot sight, bipod, flashlight, laser, ... Basically, if you can think of it, you can add it to this gun!!

6 out of 5!

Pros: Well made, affordable, customizable, ACCURATE!
Cons: Little heavy, not best looking (but who cares?)
Ive only just got the JT Tac-5 Recon, but it has exceeded all expectations. I got mine for about $60 for the just the marker, but you can probly find them for less. First thing I noticed when I took it out of the packaging was the construction. Its heavy, but not excessively, and seems to be well built. It comes with two mounting rails that already include a handle and front grip. If you're into scenario ball, those are a bonus. If not, they come off super easy. This marker also comes stock with a Gorilla Grip feeder neck, so your hopper doesnt come off and spill paint all over the ground every time you accidently bump it. Comes also with an elbow that allows you to mount the hopper offset to either side instead of just center, so you can use sights and other accessories. Now some people say finding upgrades and especially barrels is hard for the Tac-5. But there are plenty sights, shrouds, mods, ect. that can mount to the stock mounting rails. And as for barrels, the Tac-5 threads are the same as Spyder threads. Finally: this thing is really accurate right out of the box!! I just oiled and tightened it before I tried firing, and every shot was straight & spot on. The package I bought came with an additional 12" sniper barrel, but with the stock 8" I was still hitting what ever reasonably distanced target I pointed my marker at! And it has never chopped a single ball.
Overall: if your looking for a great beginner marker for less cash than a 98C, (or just as a simular alternative) buy a JT Tac-5!

Pros: Good for beginners
Cons: A lot
This was my first gun. I liked it at first, but as I grew and learned more about the sport i realized what a crappy gun this is. It chops paint a ton. It is very heavy. It is not very air efficient. It's okay for beginners into woodsball, but me being a rookie interested in speed ball, this gun just didn't do the job. Like I said it's not terrible for beginners, but it is annoying to always have paint chopping and stuff. One pro is it's durability. It won't break on you. I used mine for a while and there were never any big problems. If you are a beginner getting into woodsball get this gun or the 98 custom. If you are a beginner going into speedball, get the Smart Parts Ion. If you don't know yet then i don't think i would recommend this gun.

Cons: Many!
Working in a proshop that didn't encourage but allowed people to bring in both lower-grade paint and equipment, I saw these Tac-5 Recons on practically a weekly basis.

The design and ergonomics are just horrible. The rotating breach was practical.. just not necessary for the type of consumers using the gun. Parts were plastic that should be metal, i.e. the charging handle that retracted into the back of the gun that CONSTANTLY broke from the hammer. The Valves are absolute ****. I can't tell you how many people came in pouring Co2 down their barrel and there was nothing we could do for them since we didn't stock replacement parts.

You definitely get what you pay for w/ the JT Tac-5 recon

Pros: Cheap, woodsball, easy to dismantle
Cons: Chops balls, breaks easily, stock parts malfunc
On 2009 me and my friends started to build a woodsball field. Some of us own various brands of paintball markers, but we decided to do a bulk buy to invite other friends to play, and we ended up buying seven JT-Tac 5 cammo markers.

At first it seemed that we did the best buy, with the money we spend. But sadly it came back on us.

Pros:
1) its cheap!
2) perfect for woodsball
3) easy to handle ( if you intend to borrow it to people not very familiarize with PB)
4) nice cammo pattern
5) easy to dismantle, repair and clean.
6) moderate accuracy and fire rate

Cons: (here we go!)
1) chops paints (you need really good paint balls to prevent it)
2) Elbow wrongly designed (had to use some powertools to make it work)
3) inside o-rings donīt seal properly, needs to be changed more than any other marker.
4) Screw that adjusts speed damages inside parts.
5) major malfunction in the main mechanism (hard to explain, but i had to fabricate a pin for each one! cus every single one broke!)
6) 3 out of 7 are sitting idle cus manufacturer havenīt responsed my emails to find spare parts.

Conclusion
If you want something cheap, to play with a couple of times every 6 months it should do you good. But if you want a rough unbreakable gun not best choice, trust me , if you own one you will learn to repair it blindfold in the middle of the field, cus it will fail a lot!.
Eventually a important piece will break and so far its been a bummer to find parts to repair it.
Spend a little more and buy a more reliable gun.

Pros: Great for woodsball, dovetail
Cons: Tricky to fix, vert feed
Got one of these for free from a friend because it didnt work. Well, once I got it fixed up (was full of sand and old paint) I shot some reball with it and it worked like a charm. The dovetail on top (where the handle goes) is nice because you can put a BB scope on it.

Great for if you are a woodsball player, but if you are uneducated in internal repairs on this gun you are going to have a difficult time repairing and putting it back together.

Pros: It shoots paintballs
Cons: Everything else. Loud, inconsistent, poor design..
Got it as a gift with the set, kept it as a back up, gave to friends once or twice when playing for the first few times. I started with an Ion before I was forced to use this many years later. supposed to be a 98 clone but air line is proprietary and can't switch it. bottom asa adapter for bottle is either having its threads cut or are cutting the threads on my tanks because it is very hard to screw on and off and I find metal shavings on both almost every time. Haven't disassembled yet but now it is leaking air from the bolt so maintenance is required to see what the problem is. Stock barrel is trash but I found an amazing deal on a sly dual carbon, we'll see how much that raises it's potential.
