This is the worst day of paintball i have ever experienced and it is scp fault this is not a good field let me start i brought outside paintballs in to scp that they said was too hard so i bought a case of there Field paint at a outrages cost that was 2 times harder than the paint i brought in i crushed the paint that i just bought flat so when i ask them what the difference between the paint the staff in return said that the house paint is safer i don't understand that i then asked what checking the paint in tells the lady in the front told me they throw it and if it breaks then its OK i then asked if i throw the house paint and it doesn't break does that mean the cant sell it they then responded are house paint always breaks. After the hassle in the front i then went to the Field after i got to the Field the ref was just sitting and doing nothing to organize the game so about 20 min later the ref finally starts a game the first game out i got shot in the hand and it punctured my hand threw my glove which happens occasionally but the player was on the back part of Field i then ask the ref if he checked the players speed he in return said not my responsibility after another argument he was checked along with every one Else he was shooting 45 over the allowed 275 as well as 3 other shooting hotter than the allotted 275 feet per sec so that another problem that SCP had to be forced to deal with the next issue i had was people ramping i don't mind getting shot 3,4,5 times but 8,9 times is a bit too much come to find out the the players were friends with the ref that allowed it to happen i then ask the ref to check the players he then said i been here for X amount of years i know what rampping sounds like i then spoke with another person at SCP to check those players so he did and come to find out they were ramping witch was causing overshooting the biggest problem i have with this is i had 5 kid ages 13-15 that have never played paintball that were worried about getting overshoots of there stupid rule if you have your own gun you have to play with the intermediates. At the End of the worst paintball experience i the was told by a employee at SCP that we complain too much i the responded that i don't want a unsafe paintball experience for myself or my fellow paintballers the overall for the SCP witch includes there Field conditions there reffing team and there cost on everything including the $10 dollar fee for outside paint or the marbles the call house paint is 1 star only because i cant go lower this is only part of my bad experience here the is a lot more than just this.
KEEP YOUR KIDS SAFE STAY AWAY FROM SCP BECAUSE THEY WONT

I came here expecting to be able to play with my buddies who were renting.
Boy was I wrong.
Before I even get to my playing expirence, they throw this ludacris BYOP charge, even though they don't run their own games! (more on that later) I fork up the dough, and get set-up and ready to play.
Rentals all alone unless they want to get slaughtered by the "intermediate" group, which is essentially self run practice filled with speedball meat-heads.
So just because I had my own gun I was pitted up against players who have been playing longer than I have, with better gear, and actually know how to play speedball. 3-2-1-Go. Shot. I'm out! Hit hit hithithithithithithit.
"Oh but lashcoin, that could be just one player!"
WRONG.
Next game, different teams, different sides. Same thing exactly. 3 on 3's all day. I played 2 games.
Hit the target/chrono station, and start dicking around with the gun. A random player appears! "Hey, its semi auto only here" "I am on semi" "No you aren't" "Here, see for yourself!" "Whoa, it really is. Man you shoot fast kid"
"Thanks bud, take it easy"
Maybe they should have that guy run the field!
Best part of the day was lunch break with straw hat pizza, and the car ride home.

I've played at SCP a couple of times while visiting friends in NorCal. I've met the owner/operators (and also know the brother who operates PSP in Washington state).
Field layouts - they have about 8 to 10 fields, of varying layouts. Back side fields are a bit less maintained (hard pack dirt, very little astroturf or carpet to speak of. Fields are primarily speedball / urban settings. Refs come in various shapes, sizes, and experience. If you're lucky, you'll get more than one ref per game. Not so lucky - one man show.
Rules & Regs - this is where a lot of people gripe, myself included (not as loudly as some, however). Field rules state you must check in outside paint, then pay a fee. Not bad, as a lot of fields have that same rule. Not so nice, when the field paint quality is the same as the paint you bring, only they don't agree with your assessment (e.g, can't use your own paint, must buy theirs). Second rule that catches a lot of grief - if you bring your own equipment, you CANNOT play with anyone who rents their gear - UNLESS YOU, TOO RENT GEAR (you must use a rental marker at the very least). NO IFS, ANDS, or BUTS. This rule REALLY sucks if you own your own gear, but are not as experienced as others who play at SCP regularly who also own all of their gear. Sucks even more when the only players who are still playing are all rentals, or there are less than 6 people who have their own gear. You get to (a) watch, (b) rent, or (c) go home - or somewhere else.
While I understand the rule about Rentals vs. Owners playing on the same field (slight disadvantage to the Rental crowd), I've played at other fields where they mix it up and everyone's happy. If you have to separate the players, do so by experience level - not by how much money someone's invested in their own equipment. I could be a totally new player who JUST picked up a Planet Eclipse ETHA, but had never played more than one game of paintball in his life. You want to stick me with the guys who've played for years, toting G6Rs, Luxes, Geos, Egos, etc.? No thanks.
Another thing you might run into at SCP - team scrimmages for some of the local college teams, pro teams, etc. One of my trips to SCP included butting heads with the U of Santa Clara team who claimed they had a field all to themselves for team practice...ended up taking them on and helping them "learn"...LoL.

SCP isn't my home field, pretty far from it (about 1½ hr drive). But i've got friends & family that are local.
My first time here was actually for a tournament, PFOA. Ample staging area for it, just the ground under the turf was rock hard on the field it was hosted on.
Fast forward 2 yrs to 2011, i've been there for recball twice this year, the last visit in June.
As you may have read, SCP divides players by skill. Rentals only play other rentals. Self-equipped play only other self-equipped, either as Intermediates or Advanced (Advanced usually being team scrims). Intermediates is actually pretty varied, and should be divided further, worth suggesting if you visit (i'll sure suggest it now that i've thought about it).
I've played Intermediates both times and had a great time, coming across just enough equally skilled players to make it worthwhile, or just running against my fam/friends who are on a similar level. There were 2 airball fields up both times, and we were able to switch between the two. One is the turf fields i played during the tourney, and it's still rock hard, but the other turf field is nice (usually claimed by teams on sundays for half the day).
Refs could bear to be a little more involved, and they could split the teams a little more evenly, but they've got good attitudes and are pretty friendly, so they're not opposed to team requests. The field doesn't appear understaffed at all, and they run games often enough for us old guys, typically turning games around right away, going 2-3 games before heading back to the staging area.
Prices are pretty high but they've got a membership program that drops the price of entry $5 and paint by $5 as well, and the membership itself is a one-time price of $5. Makes it worthwhile even if you only go once. A $10 fee for byop is steep, but many people can get paint under $40 a case, still making the price cheaper than field paint even with the fee. Some people should understand the cost of running the field - the county fairgrounds isn't a low-cost location, and they've got a well-maintained facility.
Only gripe i have is the location of the bathrooms. You better go before you get there, and hold it til the end of the day. The field is located in the fairgrounds, and the bathrooms are the fairground's own, which aren't exactly right next to the field. The equivalent of walking a block or more, i'd say.
Overall, it's a quality field, and one of the few fields in the area. It's also conveniently located near a freeway exit (convenient once they finish construction) and quite a few common city elements (food, stores, gas stations). It's far from being my regular spot because i live nowhere nearby, but i'm not opposed of visiting once in a while.

Santa Clara Paintball is one of my favorite fields. They base their business off the customers. There is a reason SCP is one of the most popular fields in the Bay Area. There are at least 5 fields, including a full sized NPPL and PSP field. This field attracts good competition and you will find many teams practice here. The only negative things I have to say about the field are price. The field is reasonably priced, but still hits the wallet hard. Paintball is expensive though, but I had to list a con. Overall, I would recommend the field to anyone regardless of their experience.

I've been playing there for a while now and SCP has been great! They have great refs and a variety of fields. The staff are pretty nice and helpful. We've been bringing our church's youth group to SCP every summer for the last 4-5 years and they really love it there as well!
