Hey nation, well i have some very very bad news for all of you, but with prayer and hope, we can all get over it.
My very very old friend and old school SC baller Nick Ramero (NMR) is in the ICU [intensive care unit] at Los Alamitos Hospital tonight. He has been there for a few days now, because of a very very serious virus known as guillain-barre. His doctors have not confirmed this but my mom who is a super doc gave him that diagnosis.
He is paralysed from head to toe, cannot move, speak, breathe, or even open his eyes. His brain has large levels of fluids and he is expected to be in the ICU for a little less than a week. He can however make a recovery and there is hope. i know that i am praying as much as i can and i hope you all do to. he is a great kid and baller and deserves our love and support. His brother marc thanks all of you who are supporting him and his family. Me, automag joe, dan0, matt rullo, and some others have been trying to see him but that wont be possible for a few days. So we will hang tight and hope for the best.
Hope all of you show support.
For more info on his condition go to http://www.guillain-barre.com/overview.html and educate your self.
Love.....
J.

Im am very impressed with all the love from u guys on the nation. thanks alot on behalf of his fam and his brother.
Gianni: thats not a dumb question at all. Actually, if you read that webpage i linked u to, u will see that this is a virus that is recoverable, and many people make a full recovery from it. Some dont and some do, but lets hope that he does. And yes you can die from it very easily. he could have as well if his parents didnt insist that the doctors see him immediately.
Keep up the love. pce.

good luck nick, and god be with you.
It has been confirmed that he does have Guillain-Barré Syndrome (GBS). As of now, his condition has not improved, but the doctors have informed us that it takes a lot of time to recover from something like this. From what I hear, he should make a full recovery. Thanks for the prayers.

My uncle had something similiar like this, but at the left side of his face. At first he couldn't even move it, but it got better with time. It took a full year to recover fully. I don't know if this is similiar, just thought i'd let you know.

jordan u sid thathis parents demanded him to see a doctor ... what were the symptoms???? i cant read that advance stuff in that link so break it down 4 me
It started out with a fever. He came home from college Wednesday night complaining of dizzyness. Thursday morning he went and saw the doctor. He was very weak and had a tempature of 100 degrees. After waking up from a long nap that night he was complaining about numbness throughout his body. At this point my parents took him to the ER. The next morning (Friday) he was back at home and I found out that all they did was run tests, but nothing to help cure him. By now his speech was heavily slurred and could only communicate through moaning, also, he was losing the ability to move his arms and legs. My dad called my doctor once more and insisted that he see him imediately. Friday afternoon I found out that he was getting a spinal tap. By Friday night he was in the ICU on a ventilator. As of 7pm Sunday night he is still in the ICU in the same condition.
GBS is extremely rare, however, so you need not worry about contracting it.
If your too lazy to read Jordan's article, the gist of it is in this paragraph:
"It typically begins with weakness and/or abnormal sensations of the legs and arms. It can also affect muscles of the chest, face and eyes. Although many cases are mild, some patients are virtually paralyzed. Breathing muscles may be so weakened that a machine is required to keep the patient alive. Many patients require an intensive care unit during the early course of their illness, especially if support of breathing with a machine is required. Although most people recover, the length of the illness is unpredictable and often months of hospital care are required. The majority of patients eventually return to a normal or near normal lifestyle, but many endure a protracted recovery and some remain wheelchair-bound indefinetly"

lol. Nah, it wasn't that the doctors didn't know what it was, it was that I didn't know what it was when you asked me. I can't contact my parents since their phones have to be off in the hospital. I finally did confirm it with my parents however. For the record my doctor is really good and is close to our family.

so while he's in paralysis right now if he makes a recovery he won't be anymore right? it just causes temporary paralysis?
It's temporary in that it can be cured. The amount of rehabilitation needed after he is cured is unknown to me at this time. I asked my mom if he would have to learn to walk again and she was unsure.

My teammate had that same virus about a year ago. He was also paralyzd and lost alot of his muscle. After he got over it, he ahd to grow back all his muscle and he walked with a wierd limp as if just learning to walk for the longest time. It is a serious thing and I hope your friend gets through it.

After 13 days in the Intensive Care Unit of Los Alamitos Hospital Nick has gotten over his illness. He is now breathing on his own and no longer taking antibiotics. Today he was transferred to Long Beach Memorial for rehabilitation. Although it will be weeks before he comes home he has made it through the toughest part. I'm sure you will see him at the field in the future.

You're basing this on...? Are you implying that emotional music makes people hate eachother while they are alive and well? Or are you implying that emotional music forces people to feel for people they were either indifferent to or disliked while they were healthy because they either got sick or died?
At any rate, I don't see how you could blame a particular genre of music for this strange occurance in human nature.
