I live in san diego. But I only go p-balling once every couple weeks. I usually play outlaw near Mount Carmel ( where they're building new houses and the new freeway that connects it to westwood.) anyways, where do you play?

Try Velocity, they recently expanded their fields, it's supposed to be the best in San Diego County. I live in North County so I like the Jungle in Lake Elsinore. The Jungle has fields on an abonded minature golf course. They have about 8-10 different fields now. Compressed air is free all day, great place.

I used to live in San Diego, infact i lived in Rancho Penasquitos. i would be attending Mt. Carmel High School right now. Well ne ways.. before i moved about a year ago.. i played at borderland, and at a weird field my friends and i built on that old dirt road that connected to Del Mar.. i think they resently made a real road.

I live in SD. I work at Velocity, and i play there too. If anyone has seen me there i am 6'0, short brown hair, blue eyes, clear flex-7, diggers, black JT pants, yellow DYE lanyard with stick squege, or if you have seen my play i wear a blue DYE jersey, shoot a red LCD, and have a 4v 1h Redz pack.

JohnnyBoy- I used to play on the dirt road when i was a newbie with my friends, gosh those were the days:) We would play like 4 days in a row at times and we would have soooo much fun out there. And i do attend Mt. Carmel i am in 10th grade, almost done, YAAAAAYYYYYY:).

Anyways, if anyone wants to say hi to me at velocity (i work every saturyday, i am not there on sundays right now, unless i am practicing).

About the field, we have all types of woods field, speedball, sup-air, and hyperball. The field is great, recently for practice we have had the entire team or parts of: The Family, Avalanche, Ironmen, SC ironmen, iron kids, kapp kids, ambush, american heat, dynasty, cobra, sitting ducks, a guy from the Shaggdaddies (one day:)), uhhhh....and more i can't remember right now. It really is a great field, and that we get some of these pro teams for practice while SC is like an hour and 30 minutes away says something.

Cool man, when i moved velocity didn't have its field up yet so i never got to play at it. i am coming there this summer and i intend to play with some of my old friends at velocity. maybe i will c u there. i will most likely have a vert feed green kapp cocker unless i buy a new gun or something. i would be in 9th grade at Mt. Carmel, and im hopefully moving back to Cali soon. Do you know a short kid named Adam?

Velocity is in Ramona. just turn on to Dye road off the 67, and follow that down to warnock drive till you see the velocity sign. if you want better directions just call the main office (619) 470-3553 or the field Sat or sun only (619) 988-0288

Am I the only Pendelton player, but yeah I couldnt find your field either, Pendelton sucks, and how much do you guys charge fo admission/air? Is it BYOP or FPO? Thanks

-cy-
08-21-2001, 10:59 PM
It is a bit hard to find. If you get on 67, then take a right on to DYE road, follow that. The road will curve about 3 times (2 will be very sharp), and with the sharp turns the name of the road changes, just to confuse you;). But right before you hit the light on the right side of the road in a gap in the trees you will see the entrance. Velocity is a great field, you should make it out here. If you need better directions you can e-mail me or call one of our stores.

DeadKennedys
08-22-2001, 12:03 AM
I could go for the #'s for the stores, and need to know if you guys are cheaper than Mr. Paintball admission/paint/N2 wise, thanks. Oh yeah and hours too,:)

-cy-
08-22-2001, 12:15 AM
Alright, admission is $15, air is $1 per 1000psi, and paint is about $60 for PMI premium (fresh, and don't quote me on that price, it might be a bit more). The Bonita store's number is (619) 470-3533.

allan_mark76
08-22-2001, 02:27 AM
Okay here's the directions:

Exit the 15 Freeway on Camino Del Norte and turn left. Camino Del Norte becomes Twin Peaks Rd. Turn right on Espola Rd. then left on Poway Rd. Turn left onto CA-67 which turns into Main St. Turn right on Dye Rd. Take a left onto Ramona St. then finally a right on Warnock Dr. You will see Velocity Paintball Fields sign on your right hand side.

If that doesn't help call the Bonita store at:

(619) 470-3533

I've played all the fields in San Diego and in the north county and I feel Velocity has the best fields ( Hyperball, Air Ball, Speedball, Woods). Also the park has a rookie and advanced walk-on group. The park itself is really organized and clean. I cannot express clean, as I've been to many "other" parks and it feels like I' was playing on a city dump ( I'm not going to name any names).

If there are any question just ask or call the store.

Dead Kennedys,

To answer your other questions:

1) you can bring your own paint, or buy ours. It's the same price at the stores and the field.

2) As Cy said, admission is $15. Teams can get a deal on admission, but you need to be flexible about your particular field usage (because the walk-ons take priority.)

3) Air is $1 per 1K psi, but you can buy an air card for $20 that has $24 worth of fills. We fill 3K and 4500 tanks. CO2 fills are between $1-$3.

If you have any other questions, just ask.

Hope to see you out there,
Brennan

DeadKennedys why do you think pendelton sucks, I have some problems everytime I play their and was wondering if you do also? Given your age and that you live in O-side what school are yoiu going to right now?

allan_mark76
08-31-2001, 03:07 PM
When I was playing there (and this is my opinion ONLY) it took way too long to organize groups and head out to a field. Usually players are given 15 minutes to get air and fill on paint. When I was there the time to get everybody out and to a field was between 40-60 minutes. Also there were no separations in advanced and rookie walk-ons. The park was way too messy in trash as I felt there were no organization.

A-

Kdog-13
08-31-2001, 04:50 PM
I know the trash situation has improved, (I played there private on Sunday). I know the chrono before each game can cause some real slow turn over times. My record for low games is 7 there in a day from 8:30 to 3:30. Thats games not sets. I think it depends on the ref who is handling the group as well. On all the days I have played they have split the walkons into advanced and beginner. It is only 9 bucks to play and some fields are nice but I find it is frustrating to chrono and then wait.

allan_mark76
08-31-2001, 06:26 PM
Yeah I know about the Chrono thing... it's a pain in the "*** ! ! !" I mean why not just chrono right in the morning and just play for the rest of the day. If somebody is shooting hot... chrono them with one of those hand held thing-things and call them out. I can also relate to the park fees... $9 bucks... who can beat that for a day of play.

A-

DeadKennedys
08-31-2001, 07:09 PM
YES the **** chronoing, kinda dirty (theres been imporvment though), the refs cheat for their friends. I was playing and saw one of the refs friends harness sticking out, and lit it and his A$$ up, but he never called himself out, and the refs throw their friends pods, which if you were there about 3 weeks ago, youd know why one of the walk-ons got arrested, but the ref thing is the only thing that really bothers me, other than that its cool. Seems that you like Cobra, or you work there, if so ive most likley seen you, as for my age, just started 8th grade, so im 13 oh and school, Jeffreson

What happened with a walk on getting arrested? I had not heard about that. I don't work at Cobra, but I do get such good service compared to some othershops I visited so I guess I am biased. I actually work at Oceanside High School and run the paintball club. We actually fielded a team for the PanAm LA last year. So if you are going to be coming to OHS next year you should come out and play when our club goes to Pendelkton sometimes.

Let me know what happened with the walk on.

But anyways, im going to Pendelton this weekend (Sunday). My brother goes to OHS and was wondering who you are. I hear about Velocity and Camp Pedleton, and MR Paintball... but what about the other SD fields. Weekend Warriors.. there still around right? and what about Pirates Grove.. any one play there? I did a search on the net and came up with them. I know borderland in Chula Vista closed down which is a shame cause that was a fun field.

Also was thinking of starting a new thread.. but will ask this here. I have some extra capitol (cash) and was interested in maybe opening an indoor field in the SD East County area (El Cajon, Santee, Lakeside area). Nothing fancy but would have evening hours to accomidate the 5 pm to 11 pm croud, so if you didn't have enough play for the day you could come there. I just don't know if there are enough players to support it. So please LMK if people here would be interestd in such a field. Also any one play at the indoor field in Temecula and was it any good.. went to play there last weekend and then found they had no evening hours and then said F that...

Thanks

Stainless,

An evening hours pb field would be totally cool, but complicated if one were making it an outdoor field.

That's really odd to me that the indoor in Temecula isn't open in the evenings.
That's one of the biggest advantages of an indoor course; it's not effected by weather or darkness.

Keep me posted!

I would love a place in SD north or central county that had evening hours. For those of us with wives and kids, Sat and Sun Day can be wasted with all types of things. I used to love going to Sudden Impact down town cause they had hours like 5 to 11 PM and each game was like 10 to 15 min. Didn't have to hike for ever and was totally different then outdoor play. Loud @$$ stereo, strobe lights, they also had a fog machine. If I was to open a field I would take the best ideas of Quake 3 and maybe Unreal and try to base a field or 2 off of them. I think east county would be the place to start cause the rent on warehouses is cheaper out here. Question is would people go for paying a field fee 2 times in a day, or do I base it off of buying a ticket from another park at a reduced rate? Seems the some folks don't like to play indoors - don't wanna get dirty, so just trying to see if that is even something people here would like to do.

As far a Illusion Zone (sp?) in Temecula.. I was pi$$ed when I got off the phone only to have them list there hours from 10 to 6 PM Sat and Sun, so what is the point of playing indoors during the day? I had packed all my gear and was headded up when I called on my Cell.. well at least I didn't make the drive.

So fellow ballers... tell me what you think of an indoor field in SD with eveining hours... would you go? And thanks for your 2 Cents Arawn.. look forward to seeing you up at Velocity soon.

I've played at a few of the San Diego fields: Weekend Warriors, Velocity, Borderlands (when it was open). I'm trying to play different places as to get a variety. I've visited some others and this is kind of my short review on each of them. Again, this is just my opinion and I would love any feedback that you guys also have.

Velocity (Ramona): A great all around field. And despite my few gripes, probably my favorite of the bunch. Many different fields to chose from. Hyperball, Speedball, forrest, ect. My only problem was with a few of the refs. They always seem to be like 14 years old or something. When I play there, I play in the advanced group which allows bunkering. The problem is that we always end up playing the same 2 fields over and over. (hyperball and speedball) While I enjoy both of the fields, I would like to experience more of the other forrested fields. Probably because the advanced group playing is always HUGE. The hyperball field was set up for teams of like 8 on 8. Most days that I play there the teams are like 20 on 20. Plus the fact there is usually a group of guys from different teams in the area always praticing there on the weekends.

Weekend Warriors (Alpine): An ok field for people renting gear and private groups. This place rapes you for it's "field only paint". $100 a case as compared for the same stuff you can get for $55 elsewhere. The guy makes rentals a little bit cheaper than the competition, but more than make up for it in paint. The fields are ok at best, some better than others. It's not very professional, but there are worse places to play than this.

Pirates Grove (Chula Vista): Ok, this place has fields so I'll mention it, but it's not really worth it. It doesn't appear to have any real orginization other than a few roped off fields and a folding table to rent gear. This place doesn't even have a parking lot. A bunch of guys started playing outlaw ball there a long time ago. Now there is someone charging people to play on the same outlaw fields and renting gear.

Mr. Paintball (Escondido): I've never actually been to this place so I can't really write an accurate review. What I do know is that they use "field only paint" (probably a reason I didn't play there) and that most of the refs are also very young. I guess there is a paintball club that can get the paint and equipment cheaper for you, if you join and pay in advanced. This will probably be a place I visit in the future to check it out.

Jungle Island (Lake Elsinore): I know, it's not in San Diego, but I did the drive there last month and it wasen't that bad. (an hour and 10 min) This place was huge, with a lot of different fields to play on. In fact even playing in the advanced walk on group, we never played the same field twice. I good place to play and a good time. My only gripe was with their safety. They had 3 fields right next to one another, the only thing separating them was a rope line. So if you got hit and walked off the field accross the rope you were in another field. This created a problem as about 20 of us from the one game were shot by players in another game with nowhere to go. In fact some of the players were so fed up of being shot by the other game that they began shooting back.

Anyway, thanks for letting me rant. I would again appreciate any feedback that you guys have had on the local fields. Maybe you disagree, again I'd like to know as we are all in San Diego, it's good to know who plays where and why. Currently I'm taking a break from traditional fields and playing outlaw ball in a field set up behind a friend's house. (actually set up it's a rad place to play) We usually have teams of 6 on 6 and everybody is fair, safe, and having a good time.

Wolflord,

thanks for putting your 2 cents in, I have only played at Weekend Warriors since coming back on to the scene but I totally agree with what you had to say about them. Seems like the general consensus here is that Velocity is the best place to play in SD.. How is Camp Pendleton.. any one wanna comment on them?

I plan on picking a field to play at in April (headed to SC this weekend). If you wanna hookup for a game LMK.. It would need to be the first or second weekend.. I am headed to the Scenario Game in Tucson the 27th and want to be rested for that.

Also any one play night ball at Jungle Island yet? They advertise that they are open from 6 to 11 PM for outdoor night ball. Just wanted to know if any one had gone and if they had liked it?

Thanks

Camp Pendelton is pretty good. The fields are pretty fun, speedball is slightly better than average, and there coming out with a new field, like "hyberball with wood". The refs need a little more discipline though, theyve been known to cheat for their friends. Ill finish the rest in a lil. Gotta do some stuff.

Wolflord

Stainless 72,

I've never played at the camp pendleton field, however, some of my friends did and the reviews were pretty mixed between them. From what I hear, it use to be pretty bad. The fields weren't very well kept and neither was the gear. The rumor has it that it changed owners or management and started improving, but again I don't know. I friend of mine actually lives in Oceanside and won't play there, and instead goes up to Jungle Island.

The same friend has also played Jungle Island at night, and said it was a whole different game. A lot more bunkering and moving on both sides of the field. The groups are usually smaller at night, so I guess it could be pretty intense.

Thanks for the invite, but unfortunatly I won't be able to play this weekend. Let us know how it was.
