Clean, clean, clean. Really, really clean...

How often do you guys clean your 98s? I can’t really believe it needs to be cleaned EVERY time. As a certified “gun owning American nut job” I need to clean my real guns after every use, but that’s because the gun powder makes them all icky. What exactly am I cleaning out of my Tippmann assuming no paint gets into the internals?

it dosnt need to be cleaned each time.. really its depedant on how dirty it gets.. obviously if your playing in a dusty or dirty envoronment you will need to clean it more often.

You dont really have to break it down everytime... if paint isnt in the internals all you have to do is wipe down the gun, and clean the barrel... make sure to oil the oring on the hammer, and make sure to lubricate the bolt...

i clean mine after every time i play usually when im bored, if i havent played for a while i clean it before i play also.

I’ve been doing a complete break down of the gun almost every week. I’m really sick of that though. I’ll probably back off a bit. How do you oil it if you don’t take it apart? Just drop some oil in through the side?

You move the little elbow over, and oil the bolt, then you cock back the hammer, and oil the oring on it.... you also may want to put about 10 drops of oil in the ASA adaptor to lubricate the internals.

dont oil the o-ring, or any o-ring for that matter, because the purpose of the o-ring is to form a tight seal. the oil makes the rubber soft and it cant create the proper seal. you should oil right in front of and behind the o-ring, never right on top of it. just thought u should know.

Actually... With out having oil on the oring it wont seal, that is why peoples guns leak. When you have oil over it it seals totally...

Oh my! Dissension… What are we to do?

All I can offer is that you’re not supposed to put WD40 on o-rings. WD40 contains a chemical that will dissolve o-rings over time. Gun oil is fine though. I’ve always oiled my o-rings and I’ve never had any problems. Anyone know different?

definaly oil the orings.. poops was right in that it makes them softer but that is how you are able to gain that proper seal.. if the orings were not soft they would not form to to the area you are tryin to seal.. also if they are not oiled they will get cut. definaly try to stay away from WD-40 or any other penetrating oil.. cold cup and other silicon based oils are fine but i prefer dow-33 to lube up my guns.. it stays on the parts better and dose not pick up as much dirt.. if you cant get dow-33 white lithium grease is also good.

I strip it down after every game, wipe down all the parts ,and re-oil them then put it back together. Clean my barrel and take my goggles apart and clean all of the rubber in hot water, and clean the lease. Guess that I am just a clean freak though!

nothing wrong with being clean.. in fact if you have the time its always better to clean your gear after each day, im usualy too lazy to do it if i dont necessarily have too.

It all really depends on the type of oil you use... some oils will damage the oring. There are different types of orings and each have their own special part of working on the gun. Teflon type orings are a lot stronger and will probably work even if you do use the wrong type of oil. But all in general, normal gun oil such as hoppes will work fine.

I only give mine a full out cleaning every other time i play or if something gets into the internals. It does not really need cleaning every time you play unless you want it to be clean like teh day you got it!!!

Since I have rocket cock, I only have to clean my gun every 5 or 6 times I play. But if anything gets in the internals clean your gun. Don't take your gun apart too many times because the screws are easy to strip!

i doa really good clean where i strip down the gun about every other time, but after every other time i do a basic clean. where i dry fire it with lube, and do the cocking bolt.

Drew just cuz you have a rocket cocker doesn't mean you have to clean it less.
