View Full Version : New quest, lots of problems:

I just got my NIB dust quest gen 3.
The marker didn't come from FEP directly, i bought it through a dealer here on PBN
i'm having the following problems(with pictures):
1) HPR vertical adapter machining problem(the threads on the right side are flattened, as if a router bit routed them by mistake, it's clearly visible in the photo), this makes problems when screwing the HPR(grinds the HPR threads flat and prevents total insertion):
http://img381.imageshack.us/img381/3846/img2496uq6.th.jpg (http://img381.imageshack.us/my.php?image=img2496uq6.jpg)
2) LPR Leaking, it is leaking from the adjustment screw, after taking it apart i notice that the washer(which in my case is a complete disk without central hole that is irregularly machined) is stuck against the housing. That the piston has aluminum debris on top and that the LPR housing has an extreme keen edge(not on the border, it has a "lip" inside that has the edge, it's almost unnoticeable, but if you pass a qtip stem through there, it will peel it off) which i suspect is grinding the piston(arrow shows the keen lip edge): -->somewhat solved
http://img122.imageshack.us/img122/2484/img2495ao9.th.jpg (http://img122.imageshack.us/my.php?image=img2495ao9.jpg)
3) ASA Leaking, it is leaking on the side of the macroline fitting(arrow show the leak): ---> SOLVED
http://img122.imageshack.us/img122/365/img2497bjr6.th.jpg (http://img122.imageshack.us/my.php?image=img2497bjr6.jpg)
4) no HPR main spring: no photo, but the main spring is missing
i've sent today an email to FEP detailing a part of the problem(i hadn't discovered some of them when i sent the mail) and i guess they should be sending a replacement LPR housing(and LPR washer) seeing most of the problems are there and a HPR spring hopefully i'll hear from them soon as so far i've heard they have great customer service
Any of you have experienced these issues/have something to recommend me? :)
28/3: I'm in contact with FEP from the past couple days and they're trying to work with me to solve this problem in the easiest manner

i had the asa leaking problem, but after about 5 seconds it went away, almost like it wasn't sealing at first.

yeah demand a free kelevera, for your misfortune. I've never experienced such problems with my quest, i have an inkling if you bought it through a middle man, the middle man probably knew the gun was a lemon. The missing HPR spring i think would definetly not pass inpsection by even the laziest QC crew, so i have an inkling that someone tampered with your gun.

use a hex wrench to take out the front piece of the asa and then put teflon tape on it and then put it back in had the same problem with mine nothing a little 1.50 roll of teflon tape can't fix

i'll do that about the ASA.
about the rest, i'll wait to get in contact with FEP support and see what can we work out as i don't live in the US and i'm in no position to send the marker back anywhere.
about the marker being tampered or not, i can't say, it doesn't looks tampered at all.

taking an HPR spring out wont make a gun look tampered, but i'm pretty sure it would of have to been.

i need to add another thing to the list, LPR gauge is busted, without pressure it stays on 100 psi.
and after checking and testing, LPR still leaks A LOT, besides the bolt had some sort of metallic/hard plastic debris ont he outside orings and the collected grease was darkened(and so far i've only dryfired and not much).
ohh well, i'll keep waiting for fep to answer since there's not much i can do(well i *can* file off the keen edge, but i prefer waiting for an official response)

Check your LPR piston oring for the LPR leak. It's probably damaged, that would be the main cause of the leak out the LPR cap. However......if your HPR has no main spring you're pumping too much pressure into your gun. Stop! lol. Use another reg if you aren't already doing that.

where did you get your gun lol?

i am using another reg of course, an evil detonator i luckily had bought for another marker.
yes, the main suspect would be the LPR piston oring, the thing is that it is in perfect shape and the keen lip of the housing will damage it on insertion, this keen lip i think it stop the piston on one side so it moves uneven and that's causing the leak.
i hate not having an HPR gauge and not knowing what pressure am i feeding the LPR with...
BTW, it's not polite to go pointing fingers if it isn't needed, if i suspect foul play by part of the vendor or lack of good will i'll take the necessary steps, otherwise i'll treat this as a "DOA" from factory.

Wow just wow. I feel real bad for you. Its hard enough for you in argentina but to get a gun like this, my lord. That poses a problem as far as returning it goes. hopefully FEP can make it right without needing to send it back. I think that deserves a replacement marker.
Le Eliminateur
03-24-2007, 08:34 PM
yes, i'm not planning on something as grandious as getting a replacement marker(that would entitle having to send back my marker first as RMA and paying freight twice as FEP doesn't cover return shipment charges), i think getting a full LPR housing(and the hpr spring)would solve my problem(full as in gauge, and complete LPR).
but i can't rule out any possibilities without first hearing from FEP
it seems so far i'm the unluckiest Quest owner :(

FEP should cover return, but it would be very slow

right, i misunderstood the last page when it says that the user has to pay return shipment it means the return to them...., hehe
ohh well it's a bad thing this happened on a weekend, it's going to be a looong sunday, i hope this gets solved ASAP :(

Just to give you a little more hope.FEP makes things right. The best thing is they help when other companies make excuses like well it wasnt our fault. It will work itself out.Just might take some time.

i just remembered something... not sure how this works with you being in argentina and all, but according to U.S. law, FEP is obligated to give you an entirely new gun free of charge, provided you return the lemon to them. Its called the "Lemon's Law". Thank Ford for that one. (the car manufacturer, not the late President)

aaaand i add another problem:
I took out the bolt after some tests today and find that in the marker body, on the back(just where the "ram" is located) there are gross machining errors that run from the firing air port all the way to the front LP port.
No wonder there was always a sort of greyish dirt and metallic debris on the bolt, it's the oring/bolt being grinded!.
i think this also causes my LPR to need at least 120 psi to move the bolt :(.

i know them personaly and will bring this up to them tomorrow..and have shrek read your post since its hard for you to call and have the language barrier..sounds like alot of problems and i dont believe they would send out a product that was in that bad of shape..because i watch them test guns and re test guns before they go out...where did you get the gun? was it straight from them?

i really think someone sold you thier problem/unwanted gun after they stripped it/fubar'd it. i say that because you havent yet said WHERE you got it. if you had gotten it from a "reputable" store, distributor or fep directly, you wouldnt be having these problems. missing hpr springs wont pass qc if stevie friggin wonder is working the line. with as many issues as you seem to be having tho, your best bet will probably turn out to be sending it back to fep to have them look at it and/or send you a new one.
probably not the answer you were looking for, but with what all you say is wrong with it, it would be the easier way to get it fixed instead of trying to piecemeal it one bit at a time.
