I hear a lot about how the gun improves with age, so to speak.

I'm seriously considering getting one. I was just wondering (as a rough estimate or personal experience) how long you have to break one in for these changes to occur. a lot of different guns have very different break in periods.

and also, should I just consider getting a used gen 3 for 500 and save some dough, since they have to be broken in anyways, or get a new one.

thanks!

By doing that you run the risk of loosening screws and basically you could end up shooting parts out of the barrel. But, I wuld get a second opinion about what I just said.

dryfiring does help break the marker in, but I wouldn't do it nonstop...It helped me break mine in a little faster--just don't do it non stop--as for the breakin period, it took about ~2 cases before the reg was noticeably broken in. Good luck finding a good used one if that's the way you go! you'll love the quest no matter how you get it

I bought mine new, and the warranty card is a very important thing to have. My marker was broken when I got it, and I had to send it back to be fixed. Free of course, thanks to the warranty.

If the seller is a trustworthy one, and you can find the right gun (remember, you get what you pay for); used might be a good option if money is an issue. Playing with my Quest and essentially watching it break in was great, and as lame as this sounds, almost gave me a bond with it.

new gun is always better

dude forget the break in. yes it will get better, but really the performance difference will be small on teh feild. get a gun, go play with it, and one day it will magically be more consistant and efficient. dont worry about it or sit at home shooting your gun, it will happen soon enough. generally it takes thousands of shots. i would say on average between 5-10k shots for the regs, all seals, and parts to get broken in. but like i said, its not like my gun sucks now and later its super awsome. it will shoto great out of teh box, it will shoot great later. one day you will just notice your chroroning better and maybe getting more shots. nothing huge. the biggest thing breakin allows you to do is tune your gun. after breakin, you can mess with your regs more, your gun will generally run a lower pressure etc, whereas a new gun might not like you to turn down the lpr or change settings.

I got my quest used but it had only had like 500 shots through it. I enjoyed watching it break in aswell. I still haven't tweaked with the lpr or dwell. I will soon if I don't sell it.

you spelled "breaking" wrong.
