Hey this is Dan Wake in Knoxville, TN. I’ve been talking with Bruce King over the last few days and I wanted to wish you luck on a good season in 07. Hopefully you guys will iron out whatever issues that can crop up with any promising team.

Keeping a team together can be tough. Some guys are looking to advance as fast as possible. Others enjoy playing on a team with friends they’ve grown up with. Priorities can change (you know that life OUTSIDE paintball) such as going onto school, your job, girlfriends, etc. Sponsorship and money issues can put a strain on individual players and the team as a whole. So there are lots of ways a team can be stressed to the breaking point. Of course . . . You know all this!

I mention those specifically because my son Zack has been playing paintball for a number of years now and he has been on teams that have faced all of those situations, some more than once. So what can help?

One of the leading Sports Psychology Department in the country is at UT here in Knoxville and they work with Zack, Adam, and Kevin. An important key to having success is to “Focus on the Process, Not the Outcome.” Whether it’s a game situation gone bad, or your blowing a team out. Or its money and sponsorship issues verses who gets the window seat on the plane. Whatever it is. Focus on the process. That means figuring it out, what do I / we need to do to get what we want, where we want to be. Sometimes the answer will take time. Sometimes you have to figure it out fast, like in between points. But there is a lot of satisfaction in working it out.

In the end, its about loving paintball. Its not a get rich sport by any means. Bruce obviously cares a lot about you guys individually and as a team. So work hard and make it happen.

And Bruce I know that Panic is not part of our team, but I thought you said when you came back you would be helping us out...maybe I just misunderstood you or something.
