yes...a good idea in order to better prepare on how many cases to have on game day & not over buy and be stuck with it, etc.

eevil usually sells for 60-70 bux a case (in stores)...xball sells for 40-45 (in stores)..not 55-60/65-70 unless its gold

o and @ swat they have that 40 bux stinger/white box and 50 dollar premium..no1 complains cause you get to choose :eek:

The ratio of fees to prizes is way better than any national tournament and most local tournaments. The chances are better to win a local tournament vs PSP or NPPL. And when you add flights, hotels, car rental, eating out everyday for days, missing work - this is a no-brainer. Support your local tournaments.

I cant see my team sheading out that much cash on a SLIM chanse of winning. I might as well buy a ego for that. That math doesn't add up. 150 for paint x 20=3000. Even if each player spent 150 on paint, that would be 9000. Subtract the cost of the paint from that, and I think you come up with a little less than 50 grand in the profit column (yes, paintball is a business, and field owners look to make a profit, not just break even for their efforts). $200 dollars may be a little more than some other 3-man events, however he is looking to give EGO's AND Etecks, so that's 6 guns, plus more prizes that have yet to be announced. Most 3-man events I've seen offer Ions for 1st, not Egos.

I am generally one of the first to question the cost to prize ratio, however this doesn't seem unreasonable to me. Granted I wouldn't drive in from Georgia to play it or anything, but this event is geared towards local teams. If you feel that your team has a slim chance of winning out of 20 teams, well, I can't argue with that. Apparently you don't have much faith in your team's ability. I guess in that case, practice is where to spend your Sundays, not touranments.

On a side note, I happen to know that Doug and Shannon are working on some ideas on how to provide some more options as far as the paint goes, as well as some other interesting features. Nothing is final, and it's not my place to comment further so I won't, but I would suggest keeping your eyes open for announcements from them if you are even considering participating in this event.

Tim, you know me & you differ from tourny's. I just like to play, you know that. PRACTICE WITH PRIZES!! I will play tourney's just to play, 1st isn't always that important to me. It is usually cheap enough to do that though. Remember, you didn't want to play that tourney is Mobile because it was $90 a team and $45 a case.

The difference is, local tourney's are usually cheaper in price so locals can play it. Practically, none hardley ever makes early registration. So $215 breaks out to @$72 a person. Then paint, I like X-ball, I really do, but busting up even $60 a case is a bit much. You need at least 2 minimum, so another $120. And that is prob. not getting you through finals, but anyway. So, now your up to $192+gas, just say just over $215 per person for a 3-MAN!

I would love to play, even though I didn't have a good experience the last tourney!!!! But, it is expensive, and noone has still answered what you get if there are NOT 20 TEAMS!

Matt, you also have to remember, I hate playing three man, unless it's x-ball style. I don't ever go out of my way to play it. If I refused to play it at those rates, then they were giving away Ions. I would have spent more on gas going to Mobile and back from Kenner, than I could have sold an Ion for.

Did you see the beginner tournament listed on here? it's a lot cheaper, 100 entry per team, plus paint. First place is 15 cases of paint, and they don't say what kind. Cheap entry, cheap prizes. Higer entry, better prizes. If it's to expensive, don't play. Simple.

As to less than 20 teams, I don't know yet. I believe he is trying to do somethign similar to how G does it, top X number play for d1 and second X number play for D2 prizes. i believe that he wants to do the Egos as D1 1st, and the etecks as D2 first. I am not sure what the rest of the prize list is. I imagine if there are less than 20, he would keep it at one division, and perhaps do one of the sets of guns as prizes, as opposed to both. This is purley my spculation. I DO NOT KNOW ANY OF THIS TO BE FACT. DO NOT HOLD ME TO IT, OR ASSUME ANY OF THIS TO BE CORRECT. I am sure Doug and Shannon will let everyone know once they finalize it.

First of all let me start off by saying this: we thought that giving out nicer guns than you would get at a psp event would arouse the locals to participate. no team likes to foot the bill for all the travel expenses, to end up 4th place in a 10 man event to bring home 1 MINI ORRACLE(non electronic) and 12 dvds to split up between the 10 players. especially after shooting 50 cases of paint at a cheaper price BUT not FREE. i'm sorry i really thought we were setting up a pretty nice tourny. the pre paid paint thing was just something to better the paint ORDERING process for myself and giving the players an incentive to do so(because like someone said paintballers like to WAIT til the LAST MINUTE to sign up). we will be changing that TO, paint PRE-ORDERING. so that the teams are ensured to get the paint of THEIR CHOICE(so that you are not forced to shoot a paint higher or lower than what you WANT). we really want to run a GREAT tourny,so the input is NEEDED. i do KNOW however, i will NOT be able to make EVERYONE happy but I WILL TRY. for the question of what if there are not enough teams to pay for the prizes i'm giving. it has ALWAYS been CASH(50%, 30%, 20% of the entry).NOTE: i do 100% of the entry for prizes. so figure this one out:
20 teams @ $200 = $4000
3 egos @ $1125 = $$3375
and/or
3 eteks @ $725 = $2175
9 trophies for 1st- 3rd = $300
ideas for other places like halo b, events goggles, gear bags, nitro tanks, dvd, and other misc stufF. so you can see the prize package is much more than YOU are paying in.

here is another one to help you out:
one player could spend=
$67 entry and air
$165 for 3 case of paint(high)
$40 gas
$60 hotel
$5 food
=$337 to win $1125 marker PLUS trophy.

All i have to say is what the crap. i cant beleve all the bitching im hearing. the dang thing is not that much ya act like im charging a thousand dollars per player. i played a tourny at gerwins on april 1 ( ya know which one im talking about) i shot three cased of paint at $65 plus entry for what a t shirt and a 2 x 4 throphy. and i dont rember hearing people bitch. not even myself. i had fun and i love gerwin and this sport. i know i dont play to make a living at it and i know no one else out there is (except for ollie.) im going to try to work with ya on this. but if its to much then well will just give out t-shirts and i will make my tropies out of a 4x4 to out do gerwin (just kidding gerwin i thought it was awasome. a one of a kind, just wish i had gotten one.) to be honest with you when i play i could care less what the prize is. all i care for is the trophie. cuz then i have something to look back on. prizes i sell and never see again. i hope i didnt piss anyone off im not trying to be a jerk. i just thought is would be cool to bring big time prizes to a little time field. guess i was wrong.

I am pretty simplistic when it comes to this kind of thing. if you think you have a good team, and think you have a shot at winning some decent prizes, and you can afford to play, than play. If you don't think you can win, or if you can't afford it, than don't. I have chosen to NOT play a lot of local and regional events, because it wasn't worth it to me. By the same token I have played a lot of local and regional events just for the fun of it, and why not, even when the prizes weren't so hot. Like Matt said, sometimes it's just practice with prizes. As much as it we would all love to turn our fields and teams into "for profit enterprises", sometimes we do it becasue it's fun. We aren't the NFL, and I doubt very much that any of the teams on these forums run P&L reports at the end of the month, because if showing a profit at the end of the year was a requirement for teams, there wouldn't be but about 5 teams left in the country.

this is an open class event BUT no pro or division I players allowed.
we have to see how many teams we have before we can determine about the 2 divisions. we would like to give egos for D1 and eteks for D2 but not sure if we will have enough participation to afford to give both. i HOPE we can, there are not many fields able to give BIG guns like that for fear they won't break even. i remember when we did dark cockers and it was real close to the line to have enough teams back then. today it seems like we have more experienced TOURNY players so hopefully it will work out. whatever the turnout we do the entry back into the prizes, so don't worry we will make it worth your while. we are definately doing up to 3rd place for sure in prizes and trophies BUT you know me i have been known to go all the way to 6TH in prizes,and of course sportsmanship too. and if we do 2 divisions it will be up to 3rd in both.

i'm so confused, i have been racking my brain for 2 days now. are teams looking for FUN or A PAYOUT????

i see there is a 3 man coming up and entry is $120($40/player) with $55 & $65/case(so say the player got 2 cases- $110). 1 player spends $150 for the event. 1st place payout is $800/team($266/player). they walk away with $116. but 2nd place is $150/team so they break even and then 3rd place of course is in the hole.oh and by the way there can be no less than 20 teams to give that amount of cash away.


then we have a 5 man coming up and entry is $250/team($50 per player) and $60-$65/case of paint. so if you need 2 case($120) then you have $170 invested. the payout for that is $1500 cash/team($300/player) which lets you walk away with $130. and 2nd is $750/team($150/player) so you wont break even on 2nd or 3rd place.

so lets go back to my 3 man for a minute. entry is $17 more per player for the event and you could walk away with an $1125 marker. $67entry+ 2cases@$55($110)= $177 so you get a trophy and if you sold the gun for $1000(even though they retail for $1125). you would walk away with $823/player.

I think more guys are concerned about paint cost. Entry isn't bad. I also believe some teams won't play due to the fact that for the prizes given there will be very good teams out and they know they have no chance of winning. It all factors in. I love great first place prizes but some guys go into a tourney knowing they won't get first and are glad to walk away with something be it gear or cash.

Yes, I think the biggest thing is that players come to play and want to take first place. But, with EGO's at hand, there will be some sandbaggers and other players know that. So, they know they are not going to get first but still would like to play the event. So, not looking at it as a profit thing, but looking at it as a GREAT practice. I think that is why people are saying something. I know we have a great team, but I know that some RIK, X-Xtreme players around this area will want to come play. I don't have a problem with that, but they have ALOT more experience then we do. I think we can beat them on occasions, but most times they do beat us. So, my thinking goes out the window with winning first. It doesn't change that I do like to play tourney's and first isn't always a big thing for me, but like I said in the past, it is usually cheap enough to play.

Cash usually does bring more teams for some reason. Those Ego's might retail for $1125, but I just sold 2 of them and didn't get but $800 a piece for them. They are not keeping there value since there are soooo many PL Ego's out there now. Eclipse has done the same thing WDP did w/ the angel, and now there regular Ego's are worth poop! (still a great prize for 1st though)

I think people just like to complain. I once saw a guy standing outside the Superdome trying to give away his ticket to the Saints game. People were telling him that he couldn't pay them to take it. He then held up a $5 bill and said he would give it to anybody who would take the ticket too. I actually heard somebody tell him that the seat wasn't good enough, he had to add another $5 to the offer in order to take the ticket. True story.

Dynasty use to be the crap,and they won everything but do you think that stopped other teams from going and playing against them, no and now look dynasty is getting beat by a lot of team i never thought could do such a thing. they played anyway and now they are beating dynasty.

Here is a little math for you---
Most fields pay out 100 % of entry in prizes
That leaves paint $$ for the fields profit.
What most of you don't realize is the expenses that a field has for a tournament.

20 Teams x 3 players = 60 players
60 players x 2 cases = 120 cases
$65 per case x 120 = $7800.00
Less sales tax of 8 to 9 % (depends on where field is)
7800.00 x 8.75% = $682.50
Less cost of 120 cases of Premium paint - $$$$$$$$$$
Less salaries paid to referees who have to fill in for sponsored team members who decide not to show up to ref
Less Trophies
Less time, energy spent - cutting the grass before the event.
Repairing bunkers for the event.
Resetting up the field for the event.
Cleaning up the field after the event.
Purchasing more than enough paint a week before the event, in hopes that you will get a good turnout and have enough paint.
And one thing players forget about as well, your field will be closed to your regular customers that day so whatever profit you make has to make up for that lost income.

Having organized 3 tournaments this year, I can agree with what PBCCarrie posted. There are many expenses that players do not realize. Entry fee means nothing because it is given out in the form of prizes. Referees and other staff members have to be paid. Tournaments don't make huge profits.

The 1 thing i know abouty paintball players is that they're are cheap as hell!!! No matter what the cost it will always be too much for somebody, what you guys are asking is not too much for what you are giving out as prizes. Hell the CFOA 5 man rookie isn't giving out those kind of prizes for 1st place (not bashing just making a comparisson). All I'm trying to say is you aren't asking too much, run it to the best of your abilities and let the chips fall where they may!!! Doug, this tournament sounds freaking awesome. This is probably the best prize to entry fee ratio I have seen in a local tournament. The closest I have seen was Bob's 3 man where they gave out shockers. EGO's definitely cost more than shockers, by the way.

its a 3 man tournament. so whatever the prizes are you will get 3 of per team including 3 trophies per team. whether it be egos and/or eteks, that will be determined on the amount of teams registered. plus i will have alot more good things to give. some of my IDEAS are planet eclipse gearbags, ruksaks, E vents, halos, and maybe even nitro tanks. again, it all depends on the amount of teams.

15-19 teams = etek egos for 1st place(2nd-3rd TBA)

congrats to ALL the teams who came out and played some GREAT paintball.

1st place= Eclipse'd(3 Brand new cars, $1200 cash plus trophies)
2nd place = Lethal(halo b's with rip drive, dvds,misc goodies, and trophies)
3rd place = Granite Black(nitro tanks, dvds, misc goodies, and trophies)
4th place = Granite Gray(jerseys and misc goodies)
5th place = Kamikaze(jerseys)
6th place = Enfamous(gloves)

Everyone had GREAT attitudes and played an awesome day of paintball. thank you again for coming out and thanks again to all my helpers who made the tourny run smooth..
