Hey, I'm working on Quest o-ring kits and am wondering if it is necessary to use urethane rings on the middle bolt o-ring. Any help is appreciated, especially from people with experience using buna rings on this spot. Thanks.

We like to use the Ureathene for the middle oring Becuz of Swelling. <Cant remember if it does or doesnt atm...> It isnt Required but it tends to fix 9/10 Air problems.. I suggest you Include it To keep your gets Going, If not people may look elsewhere for all U Orings.

What lube do you use that causes swelling???

And if they were included the cost would raise substantially.

www.MarkerKits.com Has Quest Kits fs atm...

Dow 55 causes o-rings to swell. Dow 33 and hater sauce both do not.

well i guess the simple answer then is NO, It is Not required...

Does anyone else have any input? I know urethane ring's are generally used because they are harder than buna. So based on that is there any reason the buna rings wouldn't work?

they will work, its just the issue of Swelling.

not to hog the thread but if you're having air leak past the #17 wouldn't some swelling be good for that guy? Also anyone know how many spots on the bolt and pin you can/should use urethane? thanks

i done believe the quest was made for swelling.

intimidators use 55, because it has very low tolerances with the ram, and the lube + orings expands to make up the slack

but i believe the quest was made with higher tolerances, and isnt required to use a swell inducing lubricant. and on top of that swelling causes there to be a greater coefficient of friction, and thus causes you to raise your LPR output pressure to compensate.

all in all. spending extra money on better orings, and using better lube, will pay off
(look at syntax's 20 psi wonder gun)

and what 'better o-rings' and 'better lube' do you suggest?

as far as lube I strongly suggest HaterSauce or...blue goo <I am going to possibly go back to blue goo, I was able to try some at a reball center and it was very nice, but I was using dow33 at the time.

I personally make my own lube, and use special orings.

it's top secret so don't ask. and in my guns pics, it has the stock orings, not the special ones i have on it now.

so why not market them and turn a dime?

I'm thinking about polishing the inside the bore to make the area where the bolt moves as smooth as possible. Anyone tried this yet?

I was also thinking about adding in a sleeve, but that would require milling.

because I'm not in paintball for money.

it's for my enjoyment.

besides... I havent done enough testing yet, unlike some people I would rather put something out that can perform time and time again.

I would say that if it's for enjoyment why not reveal the secret than be a douche and keep it hidden, but by admitting your views regarding consistant performance I completely understand

read the post, I thought he was one for not trying to help people out with his apparently AMAZING formula for success, who wouldn't kill for a 20 psi god quest with nothing bad?

I admitted that I understand his point of view for not trying to lure other people into messing up their guns and obviously understand that.

It may be late, but I'm no flamer

polishing the bore means tolerance problems(hence why some guns need the urethane oring and some dont, even without the polishing). milling an insert will help with some of the probs, but means milling the body too, which entails its own problems and difficulties.
