Just wondering guys........do any of your Quests have milling tool marks? The 2 grooves in the top of the gun has tooling marks and the 3 teardrop grooves on each side has them as well.

Mine has them pretty bad. I have been debating if I should just have them polished out and re-annoed, or calling up FEP and seeing if I can buy just the body.

the only mill marks i have are a slight bit on the teardrop right behind the feedneck and a touch of wavyness on the inside of the triggerguard. neither of which i find to be a problem. ive seen much worse on much more expensive guns. ive seen mill marks as bad as the inside of the grip tray on the outside body of quite a few private label guns costing close to twice as much. if it really bothers you that much, get some good polishing compounds and a dremel with buffing wheels and polish em out and send it in for re-anno. but to be honest i think thats just being pretty anal unless you were gonna get a custom anno job where you should take the time to make it all smooth. but if your not careful you can get it all smooth but it will still look wavy because you overpolished some areas and not others "taking out more material", or youll round off edges too much and/or in spots and make it look bad too.

Never been called ANAL before......LOL
I wasnt really complaining.......just asking. I have had numerous high end guns and all have to some degree tooling marks. This Quest just seems to have alot. The teardrops on the side....look dirty because of the tooling marks. Also have the waveyness on my trigger guard and what you might call casting flash on the edger of the trigger guard, that wasnt polished off. If I decide to have this body annoes....I will pay the annodizer to fix it, not me.
Also...it will be custom annoed.

sorry man. if they bug you that much and since you are getting it custom annoed... get em polished out like i said. although, that many marks in those areas probably should have been polished out better before anno. yeah, the wavyness on the triggerguard is kinda like a chatter from the bit. very small regular "lines". just on the bottom of the inside of the triggerguard(for me anyway). and you cant have casting flash on it cause its fully milled alumininum. i think i might know what you mean tho... in the corners of the triggerguard theres a "little extra". theres the rounded outside edges of the guard and then in the corners theres a slight "web" just below the rounding where the bit they used to mill out the center of the guard didnt quite match the radius. i think just about every gun has that if you take that good a look, and its a very minute thing. ive used a manual mill before(quite a bit actually) and some of this stuff just cant be helped. "the nature of the beast" so to speak. but polishing before anno should take care of most of it. only problem is having such large lots to get out at the annodizers, some things get passed over.

Yeah I know its not casting flash.........that was just a reference I used to make it easier to understand what i was talking about. I understand that some of the tooling marks cant be helped......but these are pretty bad. I have already talked to several different annodizers and they have all told me that they should be able to get the marks out. And what ever they cant get out, they said that the Dust anno Im wanting will help hide also.

Yeah its gloss..............but not for long. I need to call FEP and find out if I can just buy a new raw body from them or pay them to have it annoed for me.

If they do sell raw bodys let me know. I would like to get my hands on one to see what Ken can mill off of it (far be it from me not to want to get a gun milled :) )

dust wont have marks thats why companys started doing it, its cheaper. Getting all the marks out by polishing takes forever.

Everything is being taken care of. I think everyone will like the anno on it.
