i bought a bag of paint this afternoon to shoot thru my quest. specifically to see how much air it took to shoot it. i noted my tank pressure before i started shooting. ~2300psi. all i shot was the 500rnds. no dry shots or anything like that. when i was done i had ~1400psi left in my tank. thats roughly 900psi to shoot 500rnds. if im doing the math correctly that means i should get like 2500 shots out of a full 68/45?

my lpr is set at 75-80psi and my dwell is the default 8 on the was board. im not sure where my hpr is set. im pretty sure my velocity is low but i dont have a chrono to check it(just plinking in the backyard at the moment).

even if i have to turn up the hpr for velocity, i dont see it killing my shot count that badly and should still be able to get at least close to 2000 shots off a fill. and im also still in the break in period. ive only shot two and half tanks of air thru it and 1000rnds during that.

this is just phenomenal! and once i do the tuning after the break in its supposed to get MORE efficient? good god ill be able to play all day on one fill!
of course thats really just theoretical shot counts...i should get out to play soon and see just how much i actually get out of it. but its gonna be hard to keep track with lots of folks wanting to probably try it out, not to mention that it took alot of discipline on my part to only shoot the 500rnds i had to find out the air usage.

ya you can really pump out the paint once its al broken in.

mine was kinda iffy today.. i shot 500 and used 800 psi.... i Know it can do better but i figure Dryfires drain the tank Much faster...
i set my lpr at 50-55 and dwell at 5.0 i was getting a nice consistent 279-281 with my CP reg, NO shootdowm . i had it on Un cap ramp, and it was FLYING.no Probs.

at the tourny yesterday i started with 4k psi shot a hopper and 3 pods and ennded up with a bit less than 2k psi. i wish i knew why my gun sucks.

ya...i dumped a pod worth of paint into the hopper and changed the fire mode to auto with uncapped ROF. spit em out real nice, as fast as the reloader b could get em in there, and it was empty quick.(made me giggle) didnt notice any appreciable drop...just one or two "flyers" or drops. i only think the velocity is down cause it wasnt reaching out quite as far as i would like. ive got a couple target trees about 50-60ft away from where i stand for "testing". it was dropping balls at the base instead of the foot or so up the trunk i was aiming at. no big deal, just readjust aim point, and ball on ball.

after the break in when i tweak everything whats the best way to set the dwell? increase it till the velocity doesnt go up? thats gonna be a bit of a chore since you have to go back and forth between programming mode and shooting mode. plus theres not just full milliseconds, theres tenths of milliseconds. talk about being able to fine tune it. of course, shouldnt have to mess with it afterwards so its probably worth it to take the time for efficiency.

Well i Know the Quest can operate low, So i just set my Lpr at 50.
then dropped my dwell down to 5 to see if it would shoot, and it did.. it was consistent so i left it... i Might be able to get it at 4.8 but im not gonan mess with it right now, it works fine ^^

whats your dwell, lpr, and hpr set at?

and to jeffrey, what kind of lube did you use?

dwell 10
lpr 100

hpr- dono using a sidewinder

shooting 280 fps

you might be able to get away with bumping your dwell and lpr down a little bit to gain some more efficiency.

2ffu.....turn your lpr down a tad to 75-80. that might help some.

to .:{}:. just plain ole shocker lube.....dow 33.(i had a tube in my parts/tool kit)

i like the tins that FEP sends with the guns. "classier" looking than just a tube of gunk. more compact to fit in my toolkit too.

^^^i think you would loose efficiency because a higher dwell means the valve it open for longer, meaning more air to get through. 2ffu, what size tank do you have?

68/45

at 75-80 i get shootdown and bolt stick, i think i have a bad bolt/bolt guide

rule thumb about dweel is:
High dwell leads to softer on paint, louder and less efficient
Low Dwell is quieter, more efficient, and improves cycling time

you want to get the dwell as low as you can generally without breaking paint.

and also, the efficiency has a lot to do with the weather. air expands in warm weather helping to create more efficiency.

hmm. i dunno. ill let the more experienced users help you with that one. though ill keep track to see what they say in case i ever have a similair problem. popular answers will probably be to relube and try a new battery, from some other posts ive seen.
