View Full Version : How does it work?

I mean, call me dumb but how does this gun work without an LPR? Someone care to elaborate, because these look really cool just not sure of how they work.

probly kinda like an Impulse. stock imps didnt have an LPR. the same 180-200psi air that came out of the inline and went through the valve to propel the ball also went to the solenoid to operate the ram. they just didnt regulate the air down to a lower pressure before it went to the solenoid. SP had to mod a solenoid to get it to accept this kind of high pressure (which is one reason Imps suffered FSDO) but it looks like the Legend has a higher quality solenoid which may actually be designed for this pressure. not sure though, im just going on this based on how they said the gun could cycle at 50cps, so its probly got a beast of a noid for that. i know racegun just came out with a noid specifically for paintball that has performance like that. also having a ram running at 200psi cant do good things for your kick. but it sounds like infinity has some tricks up their sleeves to address these problems.

they say the legend is "totally different" internally. im not sure how many differences im willing to believe it really has from other stacked tube markers since this is a claim that is made kinda often these days, but im very curious to find out. also im a little skeptical about the claim to be the most efficient gun ever, but who knows? im curious to see how it does, hopefully it'll deliver.

chances are they've got a pretty small piston in there to compensate for the pressure. psi x surface area = force. high psi with low surface area would give you less kick and smaller reciprocating mass. i'm thinking something like 1/4" to 3/8". that gives them 9.8-11lb of force to work with.

snackman: look in the "what is the legend" post. i think i've figured it out, i'm just too lazy to rewrite it.

Actually, I talked with Jingle (co-creator of the marker) about the marker design in-depth on Saturday. The gun, as it seems, works on the same principle as the Intimidaotr/Ego/Etc: a ram actuated by air pressures opening a valve. However, Jingle highlighted two main differences between this new gun's design and all the others like it:

A) The ram only has a single o-ring on it (I believe this is what the guy who posted a while ago meant.)

B) While the poppet, much like on an Intimidator, has a spring attached to it to allow it to return faster to the "closed" position, the ram also has the assist of a spring. That is to say, there is a spring "in front" of the ram. So after the ram has moved forward via air pressure and opened the valve, it not only has air pressure moving it backwards (as well as a slight force from the poppet), but also the force of an extra spring. This allows the marker to cycle faster according to Jingle.

tl;dr
The ram of the gun is Intimidator-like, but it also uses spring "in front" of the ram to help it return more quickly to the "back" position. The "one o-ring" claim was about the ram construction, not the entire marker, and it is true according to Jingle (co-creater of the marker.)

The spring in front of the ram probably won't help much, if any at all. While it helps it move back faster, the spring pressure will make it move forward slower...

forward moving slower may actually be a good thing, it might help the marker to be more gentle on paint. i know that it is essentially a non issue due to the eyes, but as long as the marker cycles reliably, it can't hurt.

That's true about the paint. I was just talking about cycle speed.

there probly goanna work the same almost because most markers have the same parts, just in different design, the gun looks like it will shoot like a 06 sonic cyborg.

the reason is is becuase the spring return ram allows to get rid of the lpr and its just ur reg pressure now
its just as effienct and just because it not air return ram doesn't make it bad!!
marker fires just as fast with no problems the ppl that have used and tested this gun love the weight trigger and the gun in general and most ppl who used it are buyin it!

because no other marker in history has used a spring assisted ram... :dodgy:

way to be innovated...

Couldnt they just not lie, because its a sweet looking gat, but its not innovative at all.

I think kingman had a spring assisted ram in their EM-1 or was it the bolt I really don't remember.
I like the idea makes alot of sense.

^ it was on the bolt...but its still apring assisted

so is the BKO, the Wrath/variations, T1/variations, Daidem

its basicly a daidem without an lpr or a funky grip frame from what i can tell

diadem? what's that? (I know it was an AM gun..few others probably do.) ;)

hard to justify this price for a FASOR.

my thoughts exactly. But i reserve my final opinion until this gun is fully released and we know the whole truth.

so it's a super duper duper nice AR-1. what I have, lol. Another Spurlock design...sigh.

how nice is really nice?

if a spring returned gun is designed properly, it could be just as good as the standard marker with an air, and only air, driven ram. it might be cheaper to manufacture as well.

The wrath is 100% spring returned. This gun looks like a Force Air: Spring, Air, & Poppet returned Ram.

infinity would not make a gun without an LPR if they though it was going to hinder the performance of the marker, with ot wothout an LPR is going to perform just as nice as any gun out there

SP had to mod a solenoid to get it to accept this kind of high pressure .

the 4/4 shocker used the same noid it was not modified.

the gun functions like a EM-1,which can achive high rates of fire.the EM-1 had only 1 oring on its ram also.not bashing the gun just pointing out its close to other makes, just taken a step further.

from what i hear from eryn from wildcards, these guns rock. It doesn't need an LPR because of the spring return.

Now this is what I think: The LPR usually controls the guns recocking pressure. Because the ram is returned/recocked by a spring, it needs no LPR. And because you aren't using air to recock the gun, it makes it more efficient. This is kind of the opposite of bushmasters because the spring pushes the bolt forward instead of back, which is why they still need an LPR to return the ram. So this gun is similar, but different to a lot of guns. No doubt its efficient though.

I thought it was Air AND spring return...

doesnt an LPR usually just control the bolt pressure?

This marker functions similar to a Wrath. It actually is cycled very simply. Its inhumane speeds are really cool though, even with the NPPL bot usually stopping speed altogether
