View Full Version : Georgia Paintball Players are a Threat to Quality of Life Per Carroll County Resident

My Husband and I recently purchased 14 acres of land in Carroll County Georgia with the intent of opening a new paintball field in the fall of 2002. We were told to make an application to the county for a land use permit. The first hearing was a disaster to say the least. There is an elementary school 1 mile from the land and the school principal circulated a petition to prevent us (250 signatures) from passing. They sited Paintball players as WAR MONGERS, BORDERLINE MANIACS, and even stated that a paintball player/maniac might sneak through the woods and attack the school. The safety of the neighbor hood and the children must be protected from a paintball field.
The quality of Life in Carroll County must be preserved from the likes of people like us.

I need any support from any paintball enthusiast for the final hearing scheduled July 16,2002 at 6:15pm to be held at Carroll County Tax Office 423 College Street, Carrollton Georgia

If any one would like to get a copy of the Petition to pass around for signatures please email me at L.Richey@att.net

That is insanity. See what kind of people are "in charge", and dont forget the fact that the guy is a principal.
He is probably from CA, or NE.

Too bad I am not from your area, I would help out. I am from VA right outside of D.C.. We have alot of wackos like that up here.

You obviously don't need an education to run a school.

both arkenstone and ulitmate paintball are located near elementary schools. arkenstone also had a $300,000+ housing community built adjacent along with a golf course. they have been there for over 13 years and to my knowledge without incident of a "crazy pballer" attacking the school. get a couple maps showing how close these schools are to the fields and get written signed letters stating their are not any problems with these fields. try the golf course while you are at it. ask the other side to show educated factual evidence that a field could endanger the children. their are homes located near these fields as well talk to them and get written letters also. sounds like its gonna take some work but can be worth it. hell doesn't VR paintball still run? arent they in carroll county? if they have a permit they should allow you to have a permit. school has nothing to do with it. what are the chances children are going to be going to school on a saturday or sunday? ask them that next time. just make sure your only going to be open on the weekends :P

good luck

1 mile is along way for someone to walk, but the people who bought this land should have considered that.

i know nobodys gonna go through the woods goin buck wild on a school but maybee it would work out if the paintball park isent open during school hours........

i know im gonna get flamed by some hardcore paintball phanatic
so just save it

I hate ignorant liberals like that. School administrations are full of
of them. Sometimes education, logic and common sense do not phase them into reality.

I am in Marietta. Email me at Callconnie3418@aol if you need help.
Good luck.

Yeah,,,ive been involved with this. I have some teamates that are going up there on the 16th to try and work this thing out. They also said other things like...."Paintball players are Militant and dangerous people......Paintball is harmful to the enviroment......
oh,,and the best,,,well,,worst,,ya know what i mean....Paintball promotes terrorist-like activities"....can you believe this $hit.

So, my guys are going up there to take up for the sport ( i would go but cant get off work),,show them tangible evidence that its not "Militant", or Terrorist like...yeah, there is the rec scenario thing that does take after military type scenes (camo, grenades, tanks etc) but thats not what we want to bring to the table. We are trying to also bring to the table, all the facts. Like which sports has higher accident rates, saftey precations, how paintball has changed since it began,,etc. Still to this day,,,people have the wrong impression of this sport...

I would say along with providing proof that Paintball players are not WAR MONGERS, BORDERLINE MANIACS, I would put it to them as to where they got there information or are they just OTF (Out There Flapping) I would also hit up SPLATT, APG and any other regular defender of the sport that you could get hold of. It isn't the wild eyed paintballers from the field they have to worry about, it is they juvenile delinquents that buy a paintball gun from Wal-Mart or K-mart that they need to worry about. Organized paintball promotes safe play and use of paintball equipment in designated areas. Ask the principal if some kids egged his school would he propose that eggs be removed from the grocery stores because eggs promote borderline maniacs and warmongers to act?

Oh I just so much want to show up at that meeting. I so much hate being called a warmonger and a borderline maniac because I'm a paintball player. I'm one of those because I'm a soldier not a paintball player. I would bet this D.D. doesn't even know what he is spouting. Most warmongers are the ones that wish for war but have no intention of being part of it. As for maniacs he should check out how crazy his soccer moms are that are in front of his school every morning before he calls a paintball player a maniac.

All you bone heads talking smack about Cali. Eat SH**! We in Cali have some of the best paintball fields on the planet!

Ignorance is not limited to "liberals", as can be seen on this thread. Some right wingers simply renforce the school administraitons "mil. wacko" theories.

So instead of further dviding or ranks by name calling eachother,
Lets work together. We can all agree that what was said about paintballing is wrong... So lets stop the left wing/right wing bashing and deal with this one issue in the paintball world...

Slow the roll there Bubba, there isn't any name calling going on here. One person makes an off hand comment and your ready to fire up the furnaces. Maybe what you should do is step back, do a little recon, and move out in the approprate direction. Comming in here guns ablazing is going to get you shot down faster than you could imagine. Comming into the South East forum and making a statement like Cali have some of the best paintball fields on the planet! will get a cold shoulder at best.

Oh and the other state he mentioned NE, that is a plain state so he wasn't picking on the west coast.

You know, its people like that who give this sport a bad name. You get a school principle telling everyone that paintballers are evil warmongers from hell and everyone believes the bastard well, because he's suppossed to be someone intelligent and able to make the right choices. I wish I could help you out, but I can't. good luck.

This is gonna be cheesy but for those of you that are attending the meeting or whatever, dress appropriatally. It isnt going to help the sport if some guys show up in camo and "Guns dont kill people, people kill people" T-shirts and some other guys show up all Thugged out.

Seek legal counsel. The Principal cannot go around calling people "borderline maniacs". Thats wrong. These people obviously dont have a clue. I think they have paintball confused with the Arian Nation or some Militia. If they want to see "borderline maniacs" they need to go to the Little League field.:P

Everyone: I cant help you out, but, how often do you see a Paintballer punch another Paintballer out? Maybe if they went to a actual field and saw what we really do, they will see it as a good sport. think about it.....the most physical contact there is is when the reff is checking the guy over when he hangs the flag to see if he is hit. I mean, they are so arrogant and think they are the COP OF THE UNIVERSE. Well, lets see what they think if they go watch NPPL or just go out to a local field. They think we are dangerous? Yes, we are. I wont lie. I will want to burn you up on the field. But I do not ever try to do something oln the field that will keep me from shaking hands with the other guy and having a good time.

Vladmir: That is a good idea. If we show em that we are clean cut then maybe they will back off.

Everyone: I had a group of around 20 parents come out and watch once. All of them thought the sport was dangerous and warlike. Well, after 30minutes, they were out there playing with us! They all appologized and said they were sorry they had been trash talking us. They also said it is a great alternatize for teenagers. Better than sending teenagers to a hang-out and them getting into drugs and the like. There were a few people who would give Paintball a bad name that were there, but the parents understod that that is everywhere. Have the people come out and watch. See what they think then. Now, most of the parents who went go out on a regular basis and even have OFFICE AND GROUP outings. When they see that it is fun and safe, they usually want to play too. AND PEOPLE! WE HAVE GOT TO BAND TOGETHER TO STOP THIS TRASH! Yea well all have our little disputes, but we have got to set that aside and show em' what we really are. To promote the sport, we have to get to the parents first. Remember that.

What happens if someone with a real gun comes in the school off of the street? You can't say that a paintball marker will do more damage then a firearm. I also noticed you said a mile away. I'd think that would be far enough to say that you couldn't hear any noise or get hit by a stray paintball. But what are you gonna do, they will always have *******s that will try to stop harmless actions.

I went to the meeting and they were denied because of some old woman saying that her grandson could possibly be hit in the face with a paintball from 500 feet away. Out of the 7 committee members only one person voted for the field to open. Another guy was concerned for the traffic that would come down the road. We were supposed to have some people from team Carnage show up and help but they did not. And the thing that pissed me off the most was that when we were leaving me and my teammate were just behind the two people that opposed us and we heard the woman say to the guy "Thats one down."

just wait for the old committee members to die out. I mean how long could they live with all that stress at there age...days,months maybe a year...just wait it out lol.

maybe the new committee members would be nicer?

For Team Dark ...... I am the Capt and owner of Carnage and I just got to where I could get back online. Had a virus attack on my Comp and has kept me down for a while. As for your comment which was or was not directed harshly, I again say that I am sorry we did not show. I called and left a message with a person of importance that I couldnt not be there and that I was sorry that work held me over too long for me to be able to make it.

I would like to say that the county and board that turned you down is just showing how out of wack they really are. If a kid getting hit in the face at 500 ft was a worry then someone really needs to get a clue. For the traffic... I cant even think of anything for this due to its just stupid. and lastly, thats one down?? What the crap does that mean? Oh well just shows how stupid some back wood uneducated idiots can be.

Again I am sorry you guys did not get permission to open a public field, but guess what you bought the land and its yours correct. Open a pvt Club.... Anybody can come play for free, you sell your stuff off the internet so there is no cash transactions being made on the property, and no business is being done other than internet, and you just have a release saying that you are playing there on your own free will and you dont get held responsiable. I know its a little more indepth but you can still have a field there if you want just not to the dreams you had. Best wishes all around and again I am sorry we were not present.

I should have showed up, but alas, I couldn't arrange so..

Please let me know when the next meeting will take place, as I will be there, and I WILL be a speaker to the board.

As for the kid getting shot in the face at 500ft. Paintballs wont travel that far chrono'd correctly AND didn't anyone mention that this field would be netted at appropriate areas?

Just let us know when the next meeting comes around, and I'll show up with a full force arguement to any questions they've had or will have.

Toric I understand, it wasn't directed harshly, if you could'nt have showed up, you couln't. We had other people that promised to be there from the field I play at but they didn't show up either. I got kind of pissed at them, But oh well. There will not be another hearing that was the last. But I do believe that if we had more people show up it would have happened. But the saying goes should've, could've, would've.
